Luke Stewart is back, that much should be clear. Luke's fight against BJJ World Champion Andre Galvao at Strikeforce Challengers 7 was easily the best, and most relevant of the night. Although Galvao would ultimately take a razor thin split decision, you can easily make the case that the victory should have been Stewart's. Regardless, both fighters fought exceptionally well. For Stewart it was his first fight since November, 2008, and it marked an important step in his evolution as a fighter. The Strikeforce crowd saw the most complete Luke Stewart to date. Luke peppered Galvao on the feet, and reversed the BJJ World Champ following every takedown. From the top position, Luke was able to inflict damage with effective ground and pound. Without Question it was Stewart who inflicted the the majority of the damage throughout the fight.
Although he wouldn't take the "W", Luke Stewart has put the Welterweight Division on notice that he is back and sharper than ever. The fact that Luke could put aside a year out of the cage, and come back to fight so well against such a high level opponent speaks volumes about his skill and his potential.
